Ambient Lighting Study:
Ambient lighting refers less to instrument panel lighting than to the indirect interior illumination that gives the driver a sense of orientation and spaciousness as well as feelings of safety, comfort, and even a sense of pride in value. Ambient lighting delivers an emotional atmosphere and, according to carmakers, ties together exterior and interior lighting conditions for the driver for decreased levels of driving fatigue. Ambient lighting makes a statement as well as an impact on the driving experience.

Today, ambient interior lighting can be adjusted to the point of becoming a fashion statement; primarily only in high-end vehicles from Audi, Cadillac, Infiniti, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW. However, this technology continues to work its way down the chain to lower-cost models, albeit slowly.

LED ambient lighting was used initially as a cosmetic feature. While gentle ambient lighting can make a car€™s interior more attractive and affect consumer quality perceptions, many believe it can also increase driver safety. Most ambient lighting today reflects a light source off interior surfaces and is designed to help the driver see when he or she enters or exits the vehicle, manipulate driving controls, and impact mood, alertness and comfort.

Nice while they worked

Tried installing two pairs in a 2020 JT, though the courtesy lights. One pair worked fine, but after the second pair, the courtesy lights stopped working (they would blink at a regular interval, Im assuming that indicates a fault, I would suspect I overloaded it).

I suppose as long as you are careful about what circuit you wire them to they should be fine, but it doesnt seem like the courtesy lights on a 2020 JT can handle four strips.

I tried switching them to an aux switch but misread the color coding of the harness and ended up frying them but that was my own fault, and not an issue with these lights as far as I can tell.

Great ambient lighting

I just recently installed a set of Oracle ambient footwell lights in my 2018 Jeep JLU. Placement of the LED light strips is simple for the front footwell as well as for the rear passenger compartment. Front strips were placed along the rail that runs along the dashboard trim and the rear were mounted on the metal rail of the front driver's and passenger's seats. The hardest part was the wiring as the wires used for the ambient lighting is very thin and prone to breaking if using a T-tap. I would suggest exposing just enough of the insulation to attach a pigtail where all of your Oracle wires will connect to. $50 and a couple of hours to do the job right.

Thanks for the great review, JeanP!
